US President Donald Trump welcomed with a big hug by PM Modi:
On Monday, Donald J. Trump, the 45th President of the United States landed in India for his first visit. The First Lady of the US Melanie Trump, daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner were with the President.
Trump also tweeted in Hindi about his journey a few hours before his arrival. He wrote, “Ham Bharat aane ke liye tatpar hain. Ham Raste me hain. Kuchh hi ghanton me ham sabse milenge.”
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted Trump and his family at the Ahmedabad airport with a big hug.
After his arrival, Trump went to visit the Sabarmati Ashram and later addressed a crowd of more than one lakh people at the Montera Stadium. In the stadium, a cultural program called Namaste Trump was organized in the President’s honor.
Trump then went to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. While on the flight to Agra, he told reporters that he has never visited the 17th-century mausoleum, but has heard that it is “incredible”.
On Tuesday morning, Trump and his wife will be welcomed ceremoniously at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan. They will then visit the Rajpath and pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. The President will also lay a wreath at Rajpath and observe one-minute silence.
Trump and the First Lady are also set to attend a ceremonial dinner on Tuesday evening at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The hors d’oeuvres will be accompanied by the music of Eric Clapton’s “You look wonderful tonight,” and Elton John’s “Can you feel the love tonight.”
In honor of the President, the Rashtrapati Bhavan is going to be lit up with the red, blue and white of the American flag.
